STRIPES ON STRIPES!

A Pile of beautiful striped fabric and a washi-tape wall. What will become of these? After making this dress, I looked at that wall (that normally pains my eyes) and saw striped potential. I busted out a bunch of washi-tapes I'd bought in Japan and got to work making striped magic!!!! When I received this gorgeous striped silk cotton from Measure Fabric---- I was floored. It looked pretty in the photos, but the "hand" was even better. It was flowy, had a slight texture, and just...

This is how excited I was when the crew over at Spoonflower came to visit me in my studio back in March! Say what?? Yes! They drove over from North Carolina and got a hotel TO INTERVIEW ME!!!?????!!!!???!!?!?! How is this my life?? In a stroke of luck, I happened to lose my voice the day before, thanks to a high pollen count in the air and allergies. Watercolor Painting on Jersey Fabric

Did you see this on my Instagram feed last weekend? I was so excited to share this Adrienne Blouse with you all that I had to share it not once, but twice in the span of a few hours!! HA! But really..... it is like wearing a watercolor! Those sleeves are unreal and I love the effect the paint has as it bleeds into the fabric. So, are you ready to find out how YOU can do something similar? Good, let's do this...

My Spoonflower Swimsuit Plus How to Add Lining and a Shelf-Bra to McCall’s m7417

Back in December, not long after I had won Sew Frosting with my Hand-Painted Dress, Spoonflower approached me with the idea of making that painted fabric design into a digital design. I had no idea how to do it, but I said YES. You can read more about how I did that over on the Spoonflower blog. What I want to tell you about over HERE, is what I did with that swim lycra along with McCall's M7417 to make my swimsuit dreams come true!

Gettin’ Fancy with Organza

This was from my Instagram Stories where I had everyone weigh in on which color to choose. The coral won! Up until this week I'd never sewn with organza. I barely knew what it was! I had seen a fabulous photo on this AMAZING Instagram feed and immediately knew it needed to be in my wardrobe. So I went to one of my favorite shops, Stylish Fabrics (their selection is huge!), and ordered it! I AM one of their bloggers, so I did...

Oh my gosh, why does that girl look so happy?!? She looks like she's at a super fun party for people who love bright colors! Shhhhh... Here's a little secret. I AM happy, but that's because I'm wearing pom-poms on my wrists, a fun skirt, and these super fun earrings I just made! That backdrop was just for fun, and the only party was me at my sewing machine (I guess I get to party every night then!!). Materials Needed:

Make your own shoes! PLUS: A Pom-pom tutorial

I am so excited to tell you about my latest #SewHappyColor collaboration with A Happy Stitch!! I am the first in a new series she is doing, called "The Artist Series." I have created a step-by-step instruction PDF and a couple videos to help guide you through making your own painted shoes.  These were very satisfying to paint and then sew up. I made the design something that would be achievable by anyone who follows the instruction, so don't be intimidated! When you wear them you'll be able to...

SEW HAPPY COLOR!!

outtakes from my #sewhappycolor PINK AND RED WEEK video! go check it out here! ITS HERE!!! The fun month of exploring color is finally here! I dreamt this challenge up back in December as I was winding down my 7 weeks of #thehandmadehustle and thinking about what else I could contribute to the sewing community. I have a background in art, and also in teaching art, so I figured why not teach everyone about COLOR? I often see people sewing and wearing neutrals because they're easy...

Patchwork Color-blocking is like Painting!

You all know I was first an artist before I became a sewist right? Until last year when I started sewing all my clothes, I made more paintings than clothes for myself (but pleeennnty for my kids). When I started sewing more, I wanted it to fill the same creative need as painting. I've done that in different ways in the past 6 months. Besides real paint on the fabric, or designing fabric digitally, I have enjoyed painting WITH fabric. That's right. I'm calling patchwork, quilting and color-blocking.... paint-with-fabric. That's what it feels like to me!...
